No Shoes. No Shirt. No Problem.
Open from 5:30 am to 2:30 pm every day of the week is the best and most popular bagel spot in San Clemente, El Toro, and San Juan Capistrano. “There’s no other place quite like Bagel Shack,” senior Ian Mckernan said. The local gem has been the go-to spot for surfers and students alike.
In fact, if you head to Bagel Shack at 777 S El Camino Real any time on the weekend, you’ll likely run into a few SCHS students enjoying a delicious fresh bagel. With the variety of flavored bagels from cinnamon to jalapeño cheddar, everyone can find something they love. Their filling hot breakfast bagel sandwiches are named after classic local surf spots, like the egg and cheddar cheese named “Lowers”, or the cream cheese, avocado, and lemon pepper named “Old Mans.” “I always get an old man’s on an everything bagel,” Mckernan said. “Whenever I’m leaving for a Water Polo tournament or having friends over, I know I’m walking out of the Shack with a dozen bagels.”
Bagel Shack has always had a little something for everyone. Even if you’re strapped for cash, Bagel Shack offers dozens of their “day-old” bagels for a discounted price.
Even just walking in will give any local a homey feeling as they smell the freshly baked bundles of flavor. Stepping in to see the orange juices, coffees, tubs of cream cheese, and racks upon racks of bagels, The Bagel Shack reminds San Clementians of the joy of this town.
“At the Bagel Shack, we think the best eats are homemade,” according to their website. “From our cream cheese to our salads and bagel sandwiches, we put a lot of heart into making everything by hand. Whether you’re stopping by for a morning juice or a quick lunch, we’re happy to have you here. We’re as easygoing as it gets: We simply want to give you a good meal and a fun time.”
