Need a spot for a sunset picnic with friends, pictures before homecoming, or a date with a special someone? The Bluffs are the perfect place for any occasion.

Located just above popular beach the Hole, the Bluffs are San Clemente’s best-kept secret and easily offer the best view to watch the sunset over our beautiful city. This little slice of nature has been enjoyed by locals for decades.

Right around 5:00 PM, locals gather at the bluffs to get ready for the epic sunset of the evening. Chances are high that you have probably seen the bluffs on your Instagram feed more than once, as the bluffs have become a very popular place among teenagers. The Bluffs have been the site of many proposals too.

Locals travel to the Bluffs on foot, bike, and bring their furry friends as a way to enjoy the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Surfers and beach-goers also have beach access to the Hole through the Bluffs.

“The sunset at the Bluffs is just the best because the vantage point shows nothing but the gorgeous California coast, always capturing the sun sinking into the earth at all points of the year,” junior Ava Miller said. “It provides plenty of open space to view the setting of the sun in peace and serenity without any distractions.”

In 1966, there was a landslide on the cul-de-sac at the end of La Rambla, where the Bluffs are located, which destroyed homes. Remnants of the landslide can still be seen today. About 32 years later in 1998, there was another landslide that damaged an already developed property on the Bluffs. Savescbluff.org has a mission to save the Bluffs from any potential development and to help avoid the impact of a development. For the last 50 years, San Clemente locals have enjoyed the Bluffs and are willing to do everything in their power to protect this sacred spot.
