As expected, Taylor Swift’s album “The Tortuered Poets Department” had the biggest streaming debut of an album in history. On top of selling 2 million physical copies of the album, she is the only person to have 7 different albums that sell at least 1 million copies in a single week.
“The Tortured Poets Department” was released on April 19th, making it her 11th album. This album dropped fairly quickly, only 6 months after Swift released her 1989 Taylor’s version, including a few new songs from her vault. Initially, when the album dropped, there were 17 songs. After a couple of hours, 14 more appeared, putting a total of 31 songs on the album. With this album came several broken records. Billboards reported that for all 31 songs combined, there were 891.37 million official streams. Along with selling 2.6 million units, meaning the purchases of digital download albums, CDs, vinyl LPs, and cassettes, while an average album accounts for only 1.9 million units. Junior Jenna Gellatly is slowly getting through the lengthy album but claims “I have mixed emotions so far but “The Prophecy” has been my favorite song“.
All 31 songs on the album received spots on the Billboard Hot 100, with 14 taking up the top spots. Currently sitting at the number one spot is “Fortnight,” her duet with Post Malone. This song alone received 76.2 million streams, becoming her 9th No.1 on the streaming song charts, which is the most among any woman. Senior Ava Striley says her favorite song is “Fortnight” but the album itself does not beat 1989″. Taylor Swift will be continuing her Eras Tour on May 9th in Paris to perform her debut of “The Tortuered Poets Department“.
