This September, Celsius fans were excited to see the drop of the new flavor: Spritz Vibe. Inspired by the classic cocktail Aperol Spritz, Spritz Vibe has an icy citrus flavor, labeled on the packaging as “Sparkling Snowball Frost.”
This new flavor is only on shelves for a limited time, predicted to be out of stock around December of this year. The seasonal aspect of the drink makes it the perfect beverage for winter.
Kyla Currie, a senior at SCHS, recently taste-tested the Spritz Vibe and commented on how “similar the flavor was to the regular orange Celsius.” With at least 40 different flavor options already on the market, it is certainly difficult to come up with a new, unique, and profitable taste. Nonetheless, Spritz Vibe has been very successful and well-received.
While the flavor spectrum of Celsius energy drinks expands, awareness about the effects of excessive artificial caffeine should increase simultaneously.

The average adult should consume no more than 400mg of caffeine a day. Although a Celsius can is only 200mg, its synthetic nature can cause jitters, sleep disruption, and digestion issues. More severe side effects include heart problems and potential caffeine addiction.
A surplus of caffeine on a regular basis can lead to levels of GABA, Gamma-aminobutyric acid, the brain’s calming neurotransmitter, to decrease. Loss of GABA can cause feelings of restlessness and insomnia. People turn to caffeine to regulate their anxiety, repeating and fueling the cycle.
Senior at SCHS Isabella Macchia can be used as an example of the negative effects of immoderate caffeine consumption. Macchia said that she “drinks at least one Celsius every single day, in addition to coffee every morning,” exceeding the recommended daily threshold. She recently “realized how crippling [her] caffeine addiction” is because of her “recurrent migraines” when she is deprived of her caffeine sources. While having several energy drinks in one day is ill-advised, it is especially unhealthy to be pairing Celsius with coffee, another highly caffeinated beverage.
Though it can be difficult to say no to the electric flavor of Celsius energy drinks, it is important to monitor your caffeine intake.
