San Clemente girls golf is off to a swinging start as they head into pre-season. The team kicked off their matches this Tuesday against rival San Juan Hills High School. Official league play will commence in a few weeks, and Coach Dill is already enthusiastic, noting, “It’s going to be an interesting one as we have many up-and-coming stars.” Among these stars are Darla Larson, starting her junior year with impressive scores in the mid to low 40s, and Harlow Lebaron, a freshman who made a notable debut with a score of 41.

This team is talented not only on the course but also off it. These young women truly embody what it means to be a Triton. These girls set a high standard with a remarkable blend of dedication, camaraderie, and resilience. Unlike many other sports, girls’ golf does not have mandatory summer practices, yet the team’s commitment is evident through private coaching and personal practice. Junior Sarah Sevilla, who practices at Bella Collina during the off-season, explained, “Summer is when I lock in and work on my game.” She further expresses that “it is a time when [she] can truly focus on becoming a better golfer.” This year-round dedication contributes to the team’s consistent ranking among the top in the league.

Despite being a small squad of just 14 players, girls’ golf has achieved significant success, consistently ranking among the top in their league. This achievement is greatly due to the amazing guidance from the coaching trio: Coaches Brown, Parker, and Dill. Their support and expertise have been crucial in ensuring the team’s success both on and off the course.

This year, there is a great focus on team bonding to ensure that the tight-knit nature of the team remains. Last year, they introduced activities such as bowling and bonfires at T-Street, which have deepened their connections and enhanced team spirit. With senior Ella Villavazo stepping up as captain, there is excitement about the new bonding activities planned for this season. These strong friendships and collective drive are set to lead them through an impressive league run as they come swinging into the 2024-2025 season.

The season is just getting started and the next match is on Tuesday, September 10th versus Capo Valley. Be sure to wish these girls luck as they face their next match.
