Guy Gansert, one of 24 male contestants in competition for Joan Vassos’s love on season one of “The Golden Bachelorette,” stood out from the start as a potential candidate for the next Golden Bachelor. However, technicalities from his past complicate his chances of joining Bachelor Nation, and fans are all about the drama.
The first ever “Bachelor” debuted in 2002 on ABC, since then, a growing group of fans and participants across the globe have come to be known as Bachelor Nation, and as support widened, so did the age groups involved. Variations of the show have been released over the years, including “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise,” and more recently “The Golden Bachelor/ Bachelorette.” This year marks the first season of “The Golden Bachelorette,” giving senior men and women a chance at finding love again after loss or divorce, or possibly for the first time.
In 2021, Guy’s former wife, Heidi O’Gara, filed a restraining order after concerns about interactions with her ex-husband. In an elaborate Instagram post, he addressed the restraining order, saying it “was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse” he went on to say their relationship is mended and the conflict resolved.
As of right now, the season’s winner is looking to be Chock Chapple. If Joan does choose Chock, the natural choice for the next Golden Bachelor would be Guy. His approachable, confident charm seems to resonate with fans, and his background suggests stability and maturity, ideal traits for the next lead. “I’ve loved watching Guy this season, he’s fun, successful, and very sweet to Joan” says San Clemente High School junior, and Golden Bachelor fan, Dylan Nelson.
With everything appearing to be perfect, and his expression of desire for a meaningful connection, without his restraining order complication, Guy as the next Golden Bachelor would be a no-brainer.
What keeps producers skeptical is not only this drama inducing restraining order of his, but also the fact that previous Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner and his wife Theresa Nist’s marriage failed. This heightens the stakes for a successful second season of “The Golden Bachelor,” one that promises to yield true love and a long lasting marriage. If Guy is what his restraining order claims him to be, his character on the show will be discredited, something producers cant afford to risk this upcoming season.
“I think it’s easy to pretend to be someone you’re not in front of national television” junior Grace Owens said. “I don’t think Guy should be trusted as the next Golden Bachelor.”
