San Clemente holidays are one of a kind. Our small town is filled with unique and special experiences that bring joy and foster a festive atmosphere. As the “happy holidays” are approaching, our Spanish village by the sea explodes with holiday cheer. The town’s landmarks such as Casa Romantica, downtown Del Mar, and the San Clemente Outlet Mall host annual traditions regarding the celebration of Christmas.
Casa Romantica Extravaganza
On December 12, Casa Romantica is holding its yearly Christmas event. As you walk in, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree awaits followed by tens of tables and heaters to welcome anyone willing to experience their Christmas spirit. A group of volunteers performs classic Christmas Carols like “Jingle Bells,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Silent Night” and more using bells. Outside of the main courtyard are delicate coastal gardens illuminated by icicle lights, snowflakes, and people. Of course, there are food stations scattered throughout the historical site. For children, there is a marshmallow roasting activity where kids get to make their own s’mores. While all of this truly captures the Christmas spirit, the main attraction is Santa who is waiting for a little boy or girl to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. A thank you to Casa Romantica for bringing together the community with this exciting occasion!
Del Mar’s Putting on the Glitz
On December 7th, downtown San Clemente is hosting its annual “Putting on the Glitz.” Anyone is welcome to walk up and down the main road participating in winter activities or grabbing a warm cup of hot cocoa. On each side of the street, endless stands sell sweet Christmas treats and festive trinkets. Fun activities include gingerbread house making, cookie decorating, silent disco, sledding on real snow, ornament making, and many more holiday crafts. Kids can even take pictures with a live Santa Claus! Junior Schae Parrish remarked that “the Glitz is fun with friends. The silent disco party is my favorite and is so funny with a large group.” All ages are
included, as adults also have their own entertainment of live music and nearby restaurants. People usually bring close family or friends, travel from nearby cities, or discover the event the night of. There are lights, music, picture opportunities, people, and a cheerful ambiance when spending an evening at Putting on the Glitz.
San Clemente Outlet Mall Christmas Tree
For the entirety of December, San Clemente’s Outlet Mall’s main attraction is the 125 feet tall, white fir Christmas tree. It takes a couple of days to set up San Clemente’s monumental staple, as it is a massive process. Before it is complete, the tree is filled in with extra branches to appear fuller and more magical. The ornaments are carefully placed to encapsulate the tree’s beauty and the tree is finally topped off with a traditional Christmas tree star. Junior Mia Arra said “It is a fun tradition of the town. It makes the mall feel festive and fun while I shop.” Alongside the tree, each of the balconies houses one of Santa’s eight reindeer. It is always fun looking for Rudolph with his bright red nose. The Outlets also hosts activities like the Gingerbread Man Hunt where the person who finds “Toasty Tanner” wins $500. Additionally, there is a mini train ride that kids love. Overall, The Outlets surprises people with new holiday experiences each year.
