After the game clock hits 0:00 on fall Friday nights, the student section at the football game dissolves into chaos, celebrating another big win for the Triton football team. Not wanting the party to end, the remaining students immediately participate in what junior Mason Steinorth described as “the best part” of Friday nights, joining “the community” in hanging out at one of the most Californian places ever: In-N-Out Burger.

Located just down Avenida Pico and past the decrepit and crumbling McDon…the place that is so sad it should not even be mentioned, In-N-Out Burger is a staple in California’s culture. Their classic menu includes favorites such as…wait, if you do not know In-N-Out’s menu and live in California, get out now.

What the public may not know about In-N-Out’s revered secret menu, including a Neopolitan milkshake with all three classic flavors and the delicious Animal Style fries. Known for their distinct aroma, students can smell these tasty creations wafting over the football field from the kitchen a few short blocks away.

As soon as this iteration of the In-N-Out franchise opened on December 9, 2022, it was an instant hit among the student population. The 2023 football season opened the floodgates for students to enjoy In-N-Out’s business, with many leaving the game and heading straight to In-N-Out. They are so excited to sample their great menu that they abandon the game before it ends—sometimes even before the second quarter!

One minor side effect of this increased popularity for one place is…well…the increased number of people going to In-N-Out at one time. Junior McPhinneaus Holmes-Selby described his In-N-Out experience as “traversing through a tropical jungle” where you can barely see a few feet before you.

Let’s revolt against society and include a math problem in an article. If 750 students go to the football game, and 500 go to In-N-Out before halftime, and you stay until the end of the game, how many people will In-N-Out have served until you get to place your order? Also, please solve how long you will wait to even order, then how long until you get your food. Yep, that is the problem. The line could stretch out the door and you could get #32 when they just called #28 of the round before. If only there was another good fast-food burger place within walking distance of the school, but alas, the only place that students can go to is Starbucks.

However, students are so in love with In-N-Out burgers that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get their delicious food after watching their football team compete. Steinorth concluded by saying how going to In-N-Out after football games “is part of the overall high school experience.”
