The historic Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream shop eventually branched out to San Clemente in 2022. While only being opened for two years, Handel’s has become the treasured pit-stop for most teenagers in the city craving a sweet treat.
That is not to say that people of all ages cannot enjoy ice cream. In fact, their wide variety of flavors and treats encourages any crowd to come. Whether you want the original taste of vanilla or the unconventional combination of blueberry cheesecake chunk, Handel’s 45 flavors appease every taste bud imaginable. Junior and Handel’s worker London Wilhite supported the shop’s ranking as the best in San Clemente because “the high-quality ingredients, unique flavors, and great customer service” allowed it to surpass its competitors.
Handel’s also offers shakes, sundaes, and creamsicles, each having their own unique flavors and add-ons. The ice cream shop continues to stand out with its original creations. “Hurricanes” are the combination of their vanilla ice cream mixed with another flavor of your choice in the milkshake structure. Handel’s offers “Handel Pops” as well. This product of vanilla, chocolate, or mint chocolate chip ice cream covered with gourmet chocolate and served on a stick is similar to the “Hurricanes” as it allows customers to enjoy the complexity of specific Handel’s flavors in a different way.
Handel’s has become a staple of the city to San Clemente locals. While opening at noon, it conveniently does not close until 10 P.M., allowing you to satisfy your late-night sweet tooth. Whether you are a tourist or local who has not given Handel’s a chance, I suggest you experience its unique yet simplistic service. Also, try Wilhite’s favorite flavors “Spouse like a House or chocolate chunk.”
