This year’s Super Bowl will feature a new message in the end zone for the first time in four years. Instead of the familiar “End Racism,” the NFL is instead opting to go with “Choose Love” and “It Takes All of Us.” While this sudden change only days before the Super Bowl comes as a shock to some, the league has a simple answer to those questioning why it would suddenly end its advocacy against racism. The league says the change reflects the multiple recent challenges the country has faced, from natural disasters to other tragedies, with the goal of promoting unity and compassion.

With the “End Racism” message dating back to 2021, not everyone is on board with the sudden switch. Some believe the NFL is softening its stance on racism, especially with President Donald Trump expected to attend the game. Although there are many theories, the league however, insists this isn’t about politics but rather about emphasizing healing and togetherness at a time when people need it. Similarly, San Clemente High School senior Keira Toumi felt that, “This will be a great way to promote unity especially on one of the biggest stages where millions of people are watching.”

The Super Bowl is one of America’s greatest traditions, a moment of unity where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to celebrate football. From the LA fires to the army helicopter crash, the country has undoubtedly had a rough start to 2025. But sometimes “its nice getting a reminder that were all in this together and we have each other” as senior Peyton Mitchell put it. With the new message, we can all get a little reminder to focus on being empathetic with each other instead of continuing to spread hate.

Looking at Sunday this idea of resilience will be on full display with the Chiefs-Eagles rivalry being back in full force as the Eagles look for revenge after their Super Bowl loss last year. Whether you’re tuning in for the game, the commercials, or Taylor Swift, the NFL’s message will be different this year. But no matter the message in the end zone, all eyes will be on the field as these two teams fight it out to see who will become Super Bowl LIX champions.
