For over 35 years, SCHS has hosted Grad Night for the graduating class the night of graduation. At Grad Night, the class comes together for one last bonding school event to celebrate their achievements over the past 4 years as Tritons. Typically held in the gym, this beloved event is fully put on by parent volunteers. For months, parent volunteers take the time to ensure that it will be a night to remember. However, with the upcoming gym renovation, the location of Grad Night remains a mystery, sparking some controversy among the senior class.
Just over a month ago, the event was announced, and in the announcement the location was deemed as a “secret.” With this announcement, much controversy has risen. While the mystery adds an element of intrigue, seniors have raised concerns in regards to the expensive price of a ticket, $200. Senior Thelo Du Halgouet admitted that “it’s a little daunting to pay so much money for an unknown event.” With so much uncertainty involving the mysterious aspect of the event, people are left in the dark, wondering what is to be expected from the night.

Senior Kiki Breshears added how “even though the odds that it’s held at a better location than the gym are high, it’s still weird that [the] seniors could end up at the Stance Warehouse, Boomers, or something that some people would not want to go to.” Although this element of the night can present excitement, many students worry about the cost of their ticket and that they won’t get their money’s worth. The annual Grad Night being held in the gym is what people know, it’s what they are comfortable with. This new layer of mystery adds an interesting component to the night.
Despite uncertainty, senior Emerson Donnellan remains hopeful, as she knows, “no matter where the secret location is, it will be a rad Grad Night.” Donnellan recognizes that Grad Night is supposed to be a special celebration to congratulate and honor all the seniors, as it is their last event as a class.
After all, the parent volunteers number one goal is for the seniors to be safe and have an awesome night. On the SCHS Grad Night website, it is explained that “the location is kept secret to ensure the safety of our graduates and prevents the uninvited guests from attending.” No matter where the event is held, the seniors will be safe and it is ensured that their night remains special, as it is only their class who will be at the secret location. Many seniors look forward to Grad Night and the location of the event remains an exciting mystery to add to their special night.
