With clear skies ahead and flowers blooming, Spring is in the air. It’s the perfect time to clean out your closet and make room for some fresh fits. Spring shopping has taken a turn over the years and many are searching the web rather than dealing with the crowds, lines, or parking at the malls. How do you prefer to shop: in-store or online? Both have their pros and cons.
The more traditional method of retail shopping allows you to have a tangible experience. Browsing through the store, you are able to touch the items and try on clothes. This permits you to see if the items fit, as well as put a whole outfit together and check it out in the mirror before purchasing. If you like what you see, this allows you to make the purchase on the spot and even wear it that same day.
San Clemente student Ashley Murray commented, “I enjoy the whole shopping experience and love to go with my friends to the Irvine Spectrum.” Along with catching up while expanding their wardrobe, Murray and her friends savor grabbing a bite to eat or sipping on a coffee drink. They can spend hours at the outdoor mall and sometimes don’t even buy a thing.
However, while in-store shopping can be a fun experience, it can also be time consuming for those that aren’t so into the social affair. First, you have to find a parking spot at the crowded mall. Crowds can be fun to watch but also a drag to get around. Then there is the effort of digging through the racks to find the right size or color.

On the other hand, searching the web has become a newer habit for those who prefer convenience. You can browse hundreds of stores while comparing styles and prices, all with just a few clicks. There is a wider selection offered online compared to walking in the store. While you may not find your size or the color you want at the mall, online shopping allows you to search for that specific item. It also makes price comparison more simple by searching multiple retailers in minutes, rather than running from store to store. SCHS student Emily Saw explained, “I get so frustrated when I spend so much time at the mall and come home empty handed because I was not able to find the right size in the color I preferred.”
Of course searching the web does not allow you to try on your picks, but most shops offer free returns. However, along with shipping fees by some retailers, returns can come with a price tag as well. Additionally, for those who lack patience, on-line shopping requires delayed gratification, as you do not receive the item right away.
Whether you prefer to seek fashion at the bustling mall or from the convenience of searching the web at home, adding fresh finds to your wardrobe is a splendid spring affair.
