As school starts back up again, students are getting back into the swing of things. Last week in front of the Little Theater during lunch, the first Club Rush of the 2025-2026 school year was held. Joining clubs is a fun way for students to become involved on and off of campus, while also gaining leadership skills. A club that especially stood out this year was the Hacky Sack Club. This club was brought back to life by a group of friends with a love for the sport and a desire to share it.

The idea of the club sparked when a group of friends decided to play in the school’s P-Quad during passing periods. This newfound joy from playing hacky sack exposed the peers around them to this unique idea and amusing game. During last year’s Spring Spirit Assembly, teacher Mr. Smith showed off his hacky sack skills during the talent show portion. This moment made these friends realize that he would be the perfect teacher advisor for leading this club. Math teacher and hacky sack legend, Mr. Smith, said, “sack is life, can’t let it drop.” As a hacky sack enthusiast, he appreciates the sport himself and respects the art of not dropping the sack.
Along with a poster to convince students to join, this group took a different approach to promote their club. By standing in the middle of the lunch tables, circled by all the different clubs, these members formed their own circle and began tossing around the hacky sack. As more people noticed the fun, more people joined in and learned what hacky sack was. The circle expanded and the group slowly grew into a mix of students including those who knew how to play and those who had just discovered the game.
The plan of the Hacky Sack Club is to continue its tradition of playing in the P-Quad at break throughout the year and invite new players to join at any time. The club’s social media manager, Talon Sarasua, mentioned how he “is really looking forward to making friends and new memories through sacking.” Overall, this club was able to showcase their skills and knit together a community of students. Join the Hacky Sack Club!
