San Clemente is known for its phenomenal outdoor culture. Residents can be found surfing, swimming, running, biking, and hiking in the natural landscape the city and the ocean have to offer. Many San Clemente locals who strive to stay healthy and active find themselves hiking their nearby trails. But where is the best place to hike in San Clemente?
Flagpole Trail in Forester Ranch is a familiar favorite for residents of north San Clemente. The trail, also known as Patriot Trail, is defined by its steep hills, panoramic views, and landmark flagpole, which is even visible from parts of San Juan Capistrano. The hike is a sure-fire way to get a good leg workout while also enjoying the fresh coastal breeze and views of San Clemente, Dana Point, and San Juan. The hike is enjoyable for all, dogs included, and easily accessible. A key component of Flagpole Trail is the mailbox at the end, where hikers can write letters to patriots who have served our country.
“The Flagpole hike is my favorite hike in San Clemente because of the phenomenal views during and at the end of the hike.” San Clemente High School sophomore Claire Hedger said. “The trail is challenging enough to keep my heart rate up but not too treacherous that I risk my safety. (Musicmundial) The public notepad at the peak of the hike is also a nice touch to write a message to other hikers.”
Flagpole Trail is a wonderful way to maintain an active lifestyle in beautiful San Clemente.
