The fall season is popular because of the cozy feelings it brings to many. These staple comforts include classic Halloween traditions, fall-esque media, curl-up-by-the-fire books, as well as related foods. The end of the year marks the end of an era and a time to spend with family and friends. This guide will help you navigate and decide which of the many fall trends appeals to you!
The crisp early morning invites all warm caffeinated beverages. The most popular is the pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, while I would also recommend a regular latte with pumpkin cold foam. I strongly advise against the Apple Crisp Pumpkin Macchiato due to its unpleasant candle flavor. As the temperature drops and rain starts to pour, relaxing days off could be spent watching the Netflix exclusive Gilmore Girls and its reunion special, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The original show and its reunion somehow always seem to always take place in the colder months of the year. This show follows a young single mother and her daughter who are best friends and live in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Even 22 years after it first aired, fans love to curl up in a blanket and enjoy the fast-paced, light-hearted laughs from this beloved TV show.
Movies that just feel right to watch as a fireplace burns include Coraline—best described as a horror movie for kids; Halloweentown—a series that follows a family of witches; and for some balance, a classic rom-com: When Harry Met Sally—about two people who slowly fall in love over the course of twelve years and three months.
In order to enjoy these movies, seasonal-inspired foods are recommended. The best fall snacks, meals, and desserts are found at Trader Joe’s. Sophomore Emma Barbanell said, “My favorite fall foods from Trader Joe’s are the pumpkin waffles, brown sugar creamer, sparkling apple juice, mini peanut butter cups, and the pumpkin cheesecake!”
For those who want to spend a spooky evening on an October night, haunted houses are always a great option. Located in Orange County, the Carlsbad Strawberry Company has a Haunted Corn Maze that holds a 4.6/5 rating and great customer reviews. Juniors Beckham Beauchemin and Addie Flynn spent one of their October evenings here and Addie described their experience as, “just the right amount of jump scares.”
Picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch is a classic and allows you to find the perfect pumpkin. Afterward, those who partake in pumpkin picking may carve that pumpkin to look like jack o’lantern and place a light inside. This can be used as a decoration to bring cheer to your home and neighbors. Growing up, this has always been a tradition that my family looks forward to.
I hope my recommendations may make this fall your best yet!
