What is the best part of Thanksgiving? The turkey, the gravy, or the heartwarming coming-together of family?

All of these are wrong.

The single most crucial element of Thanksgiving is eating all of your food as fast as possible so you can sprint to the lines and achieve a deal of a lifetime. Black Friday is a day to spend way too much money on “amazing deals” that’ll “never” happen again.

Black Friday was once a one-day deal, maybe even two days if you’re lucky. But now it is Black Friday for the entire week following Thanksgiving. This stretching of the sale loses the sense of magic obtained by the one-day deal. Fewer people than ever are attending Black Friday. Going into stores and waiting in lines is down 3% compared to last year when shopping online was up 17%. There were fewer people going shopping, and even the ones that do were reportedly unimpressed by the “huge” sales being offered. Junior Addison Sinning said, “I go black Friday shopping every year and usually buy a crap ton of things. This year I did not buy anything because the prices were not as low as I thought they would be.”

Black Friday is going out of style.

Because of Cyber Monday, Black Friday will probably soon be irrelevant or even nonexistent. The deals online are better than the ones in the stores, and if they are not up to your standard, there are thousands of discount codes that you can look up and save an extra couple of bucks. Junior Chloe Waters said, “I’m not going out Black Friday shopping like I usually do. I’m just going to shop online. It’s less stressful and easier.” Even our school peers are starting to switch to Cyber Monday instead of Black Friday. It is much easier to hit a couple of buttons and then find what you like to buy rather than going into the store to search through their stock and find something you want if it’s even there. Black Friday will go away and likely soon.
