Just last month, Disneyland announced yet another project they are working on: Tiana’s Palace, a New Orleans themed restaurant inspired by the 2009 Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Princess and the Frog.”
As this magical movie was set in the south in the 1920s, the Disney Imagineers are working to recreate a restaurant that’ll turn back time. With fancy, polished and colorful balconies, light colored walls, and strung white lights lining the building, Tiana and her dream restaurant will surely come to life. Live jazz music will also be performed just outside the restaurant, fitting right into the scene of New Orleans Square.
“I think this will be a good change for Disneyland because now they are incorporating more Disney movie related attractions and vendors,” San Clemente High School junior Chris Pimentel said.
This new inspiration will include old dining favorites from New Orleans in a quick-serve fashion, living up to the high energy it promises to provide. These should include tasty ham and turkey sandwiches, chowder, colorful and sugary pastries, and more delicious concoctions to emulate Tiana and her adventure.
This fantastical new eatery will replace the French Market located in New Orleans Square, near the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The imagineers for this project have mentioned that they will also be taking inspiration from the previous restaurant the French Market, including its simple but lovely design, its overall pizzazz and musical jazz performances. It is supposed to open fully furnished and ready to serve by February 17, 2023.
“It’s a great improvement for Disney,” sophomore Kiana Breshears said. “The Princess and the Frog film has important representation of minorities which deserve to be displayed in the park.”
Although many are excited about this project, some question whether Disney should continue to change and modernize Disneyland, including Tiana’s Palace. Like changing California Screamin’ to the “Incredibles 2” inspired roller coaster Incredicoaster, some question if the Imagineers should change yet another attraction at Disneyland, as they may be losing Walt Disney’s original vision of his park and its charm.
But, as Walt Disney said, and as Disney Imagineers continue to emphasize: “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. It is something that will never be finished.”
