Since many students do not bring a lunch or any food to school, they usually rely on getting snacks from the school cafeteria or the vending machines when they are hungry. Although, many believe that the available food options has some room for improvement.

“I think that the schools have worked so hard to get the food to get it to a state where it is healthy enough for the kids to eat but at the same time, there is only so much for them to do,” stated senior Leyna Stephen.

Since COVID, all school districts have offered free breakfast, snacks, and lunch. Each of these options is convenient and provides many meals to students who may not have time to eat or afford certain food options. Even though these food options are not the best or considered the healthiest they are better than nothing. However,  I do believe that the food can be of higher quality and can give students something to look forward to when they get a meal at school.

“I think that even if there is a cheap way of changing our school’s food we should do it, even if that is taking the junk food out and exchanging it for healthier options,” senior Addison McPhilips commented. This could consist of changing the snacks in the vending machine to fruits or more greener options, along with adding in non-processed foods that are contributing to the increase of health issues.

But, overall since food is such a pricey necessity in our lives, it is something that schools should start making one of their main priorities. It is something that student should be using to their full advantage, especially when it comes to something free and when it is food!
