San Clemente just scored another celebrity resident: NFL coach and three-time Superbowl winner, Andy Reid. The coastal charm of our little beach town has attracted the presence of Reid in its star-studded lineup. He’s been spotted across town and has let it be known that he intends to spend his short vacation on Beach Rd with its breathtaking ocean view.

He bought the beachfront home in 2006 for 3.99 million dollars and has since completely renovated it from a small beach shack into a mansion fit for the area. His new home is now sitting at a value of 6.1 million dollars and looks to still be partly under construction. This is only one of the many property investments he has around the nation. He owns a 7.8 million dollar home in Kansas City, along with other properties in San Francisco, Flagstaff, and Glendale.

Senior Niko Friebe commented, “It’s really cool to think we live in the same city as him– I might even run into him.”

Reid has been spotted across town, and even showed up at our In-N-Out just down the street. It’s in character for him, as he’s a SoCal Native who’s said in the past that In-N-Out is his all-time favorite burger place. He celebrated his first and latest Superbowl victory at In-N-Out, as he stated that he was going to get “the biggest cheeseburger you’ve ever seen . . . might be a double,” following the conclusion of the game.

In-N-Out isn’t the only reason why he’s found himself here; he has ties with our high school’s football team and its coaching staff, and has visited them on numerous occasions. Jamie Ortiz, head coach of SCHS’ Varsity Football Team, told the SC Times that, “He hasn’t forgotten about us, and we certainly haven’t forgotten about him.”

Other residents might recognize Reid from Church, as he’s a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and can be seen attending mass every Sunday just like many other San Clemente locals.

When asked how he feels about being neighbors with the coach of his favorite football team, senior Dane Gonzales said, “It’s crazy to think that such a well-known guy and the best coach in the NFL right now could be sitting next to me in an In-N-Out.”

Reid is not the first celebrity to call our city home with Richard Nixon also famously living here and earning us the nickname of “The Western Whitehouse.” Another prominent celebrity is the film director Rian Johnson who directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

We’re all lucky to live in a town that many consider to be a vacation for some of the most well-off people in the world. Whether it be the president or the best NFL coach, who wouldn’t want to call San Clemente their home?
