For one of my last articles writing for the Triton Times, I’ve decided to do something a little different…

A couple of buddies and I spontaneously decided to promote health and wellness by getting out there and getting active. Inspired by different running movements in other parts of the world, like Pana Run Club in London, England, or Raw Dawg Run Club in Austin, Texas, we thought it would be fun to bring something similar down here in south Orange County. If we get enough traction through the community, we plan to organize regular group workouts, fun runs, and even, hopefully, some charity runs to give back to our community.

With all this in mind, after a Sunday afternoon run a couple of weeks ago, we created an Instagram account to do just that; we’re calling it Sweat Society.

We all have one goal in mind: we want to create a community for those who want to get up, get after it, and have a good time. Senior Lucas Robbins says, “We started this to get people moving in an effort to be better than they were yesterday. The boys and I have been lifting for a while now, but just recently, we started eating right and running. The transformation I’ve seen has been awesome, and I want to share my experience with others.”

Whether you’re a beginner or a D1 athlete, our goal is that you find someone who shares your passion and pushes you out of your comfort zone. It’s all about encouragement and mutual support.

Running alone, especially in the early morning or late evening, can be risky or extremely difficult to find motivation. Running in a group doesn’t only provide a safer environment but also creates this effect where you forget you are running entirely.

World-famous long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge said, “If you want to enjoy more running, get a group. Group running is actually crucial. You need a group so that they can protect your thoughts from actually exploding and going away and bring you back to where you are running. Get two, three, four, five people and just run, you will enjoy.”

Sticking to a fitness routine can be tough, but being a part of a group that holds you to a certain standard can provide you with that extra motivation you need. The commitment of regular group runs adds a layer of accountability that can make all the difference in maintaining your fitness.

Whether you’re looking to get faster or just get started, Sweat Society is here to support you every step of the way. Pull up to our first organized meet this Sunday at 10 am, at Calafia State Beach! Follow our Instagram @sweatsocietyrunclub for regular updates and to watch our journey.
