Since December, Director Kirsiti McCleary and her co-directors have led students in piecing together their spring production, Disney’s The Little Mermaid. With a cast of 40 students and 55 students on different crews, who have worked hard behind the scenes to guarantee the production runs smoothly, the after school drama program is enthusiastic to showcase all of  their hard work these next two weeks! Putting together this show especially has been special as they get to bring Disney magic to life for many little kids. From the beginning, McCleary has ensured that this production would look nothing short of professional, and with many additions to the program, like their new screen, the show surely shines bright.

With quick set, wig, costume, and microphone changes, the crews do not disappoint! Senior, member of the Sound Crew, and Stage Manager, Matias Arias leads the backstage, micing the cast throughout the show, changing many of them at intermission, helping crew leads, Talan Janke and Levi Abney call over 100 sound cues. Arias described the process of The Little Mermaid as “challenging yet so rewarding” as he watches his crew’s “great teamwork come together.” Similarly, SCHS Drama’s Costume Crew masters 20+ quick changes throughout the show, adding to the Disney magic and bright stage. Backstage, their crew of 10 girls helps the cast change in just under 1 minute. From princesses to mersisters, the Costume and Makeup Crews work in kahoots to change six girls wigs and complex outfits.

SCHS Drama’s Set Crew seamlessly transforms the stage from a

colorful, under the sea atmosphere, to Ursula’s dark, mysterious lair. Switching a wall back and forth between quick set changes, the Set Crew led by Ashton Anderson, Kat Margiotta, and Elena Lendino truly have mastered the skills of moving large and heavy set pieces through a crowded stage.

On stage, the cast shines bright with high energy, perfectly executing beautiful choreography by Susanna Vaughan. Senior, Dance Captain, drama president, and actor playing the character Scuttle, Thelo Du Halgouet encouraged students to come see the “bright and bubbly” The Little Mermaid as “one will not be disappointed” after seeing the hardwork and talent of both the cast and crew. Du Halgouet expressed that “though it can be truly exhausting, nothing is more rewarding than seeing the audience smile and cheer.” After completing 10 shows, Du Halgouet is excited to perform one last time under the stars.

With just 5 more chances to see SCHS’s after school drama program’s The Little Mermaid, make sure to grab your coats, beach chairs, and blankets, and join them under the stars on Upper Campus. Tickets are sold at schsdrama.com or at the shows. The remaining dates are April 24th-26th at 7 p.m.
