The Ohana Festival is a three day music festival that overtakes our very own Doheny State Beach in September every year. This incredible weekend attracts about 60,000 people from the Orange county area and beyond. The festival is known for captivating many people from all different generations with its alternative, rock, and indie music artists.

This year, the lineup of artists was especially strong. Senior Ellie Martin remarked that she was “very excited for this year’s lineup because [she] loves all of the headliners and [could not] wait” to hear them. On Friday, September 26th, one of the headliners was Kings of Leon, who was supposed to make an appearance back in 2021, but did not end up making it due to a family medical crisis, so the crowd was especially excited to finally be able to welcome them. The front man from hit 90’s rock band Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, is the creator of the Ohana festival and always headlines. This year he was put into the Friday slot with the band the Earthings. The Saturday set list had Leon Bridges on at 6:50 for about an hour and a half, and Hozier followed him at 8:50. The Sunday schedule which San Clemente senior Hanalei Marshall mentioned she was “looking forward to seeing the most,” brought Cage The Elephant out on stage at 6:25 for an hour and had Green Day close out the weekend.
Eddie Vedder created the Ohana Festival in 2016 to showcase indie and punk music artists while simultaneously raising money for environmental causes like the Doheny State Beach Foundation and the San Onofre Parks Foundation. To go along with the environmentally conscious theme of the annual weekend, there are many sustainable practices implemented at Ohana. The event had many food trucks and drink stands throughout it and at each one of those local vendors there was cups and plates made from compostable materials which can be recycled after use in the many recycle bins around the venue. Not only does the Ohana Festival work to save our environment, but they also showcase the beautiful beaches and surrounding area in Dana Point. The coastal backdrop is the perfect setting for the relaxed and community driven festival.
