New ASB director, Mr. Dowell is a man with a plan. From the beach to the classroom, and now from the ASB office to the football field, Mr. Dowell is always busy.

Here at SCHS, we have had the pleasure of having Mr. Dowell as a teacher who is motivated to give back to the community and share his knowledge with the school.

Teaching Health and coaching the surf team for years, he has once again taken on the role of ASB director. We had a chance to sit down to chat with Mr. Dowell about his goals for the end of the 2014-15 school year:

“My number one goal is to improve the communication gap between ASB and the students,” Dowell said. “I would like to fix this gap by improving social media following.”

The SCHS Instagram page (@sanclementehigh) has a goal of 1,000 followers, at the moment they are at 533.  Through this page us as students are able to keep up with what’s going on with ASB and events through the school.

A little bit of background information about Mr. Dowell: a former Triton graduate, Mr. Dowell knows his way around Southern California.  When Mr. Dowell wasn’t surfing, traveling, or somewhere around the ocean, he was earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from San Diego State University.  Within his Kinesiology major, he emphasized in Fitness, Nutrition and Health.  Then shortly after that, he transferred from SDSU to Concordia University in Irvine  where he earned his Masters.  Varying slightly from his Bachelor’s Degree, this time Dowell’s focus for his Masters was in Coaching and Athletic Administration.

From there, Mr. Dowell decided to begin his teaching career. “I chose to become a teacher so I could have the opportunity to give back to the community and SCHS.”

Due to Mr. Dowell’s love for the beach and San Clemente’s community, he says “I would never want to teach anywhere else.”

We have been so lucky to have had Mr. Dowell as a teacher for ten years now, as a health teacher, surf coach, and now ASB Director. “This year has been a lot of work,” he said. “But it’s worth it!” When you see Mr. Dowell around campus, be sure to say hi and thank him for taking on this important responsibility!
