Despite being in business for a handful of decades, many students at San Clemente are unfamiliar with the restaurant chain Claim Jumper.

The popular chain recently celebrated its 45th anniversary, though not all of those years were easy. Claim Jumper, along with many other businesses, was impacted heavily by the pandemic, causing the chain to close a handful of locations. Today, 37 different Claim Jumpers remain open throughout Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington.

Known for their large proportions and extravagant desserts, one never has to worry about what to order at Claim Jumper. Their menu ranges from various salads to mac and cheese hamburgers.

“My two favorite things about Claim Jumper are their mac and cheese hamburgers and ketchup. Their ketchup slaps,” said junior Braydn Fox.

The restaurant also offers a large selection of proteins such as rotisserie chicken, fresh fish, baby back ribs, and warm pot pies. Guests can also enjoy a slice of their famous Six-Layer Chocolate Motherlode Cake, a crowd favorite.

Even with a show-stopping menu, the restaurant still fails to catch the eye of the younger generation. After a recent visit, I find this astonishing, for the restaurant’s customer service and overall ambiance is unmatched.

Claim Jumper is a restaurant for guests of all ages. A place where the whole family can sit down and enjoy a warm and fresh meal together. The friendly nature of the restaurant makes it the perfect place to celebrate different occasions, sit down for a quick lunch, or grab a fresh treat. Even our own Mr. Smith enjoys a quick treat at Claim Jumper every so often.

“Claim Jumpers blueberry muffins are the bomb,” Mr. Smith stated.

Unfortunately, the nearest Claim Jumper is located at South Coast Plaza, a solid 30 minutes from San Clemente High School. So while I can not force anyone to make the long drive, I recommend that if you are ever in the area, don’t hesitate to stop by Claim Jumper for some delicious food. I can guarantee that you will not regret it.

  1. Excellent and honest review of a beloved chain restaurant. It’s eye-opening to hear about their ketchup and their muffins, and it sounds as though those two items alone might be worth the 30-minute drive.

  2. Incredible review! This truly reinvigorated my desire to go back to this amazing restaurant. Very interesting take on the muffins, I will be sure to try them next time. Thank you so much for this!
