President Joe Biden was first inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20, 2021. Now, two years later, the 2024 presidential race is heating up and President Joe Biden has officially announced that he will run for reelection.

Enduring a tumultuous time in history, including rising numbers in Covid cases, a turbulant economy, and war in Ukraine, Biden has managed to accomplish some of what he campaigned for. For instance, he has protected marriage equality, signed the Inflation Reduction Act, and created laws to help improve infrastructure.

Freshman at SCHS, Ava Echternach, said “I think it’s kind of crazy just because he’s older and personally I don’t think I would be able to run a country at that age.”

Biden will officially become the oldest U.S. president in history after Ronald Regan who was 69. Biden will be turning 81 years old this fall. Many people are skeptical of his abilities in his advancing age yet Biden and his administration has been convincing that he is fully capable of making decisions for the betterment of the country.

According to NBC News, Biden has “spent the first term fighting for the country’s democracy, [and now] “MAGA extremists are lining up” to cut the social safety net and take away personal liberties.”

Now, Biden wants a second turn at running the United States as he hopes to avoid much of the “huge cuts” on the economy that has been alluded to by the Republican party.

Senior Tessa Campbell, said, “I have no clue how this next election will turn out but I am low-key scared just because of how intense and unprofessional the last election race was.”

While Joe Biden has made his bid for the 2024 election, the Republican party has still yet to choose their number one candidate. Regardless, the 2024 election will be one to watch as America experiences the battle for the presidency once again.
