NFL power rankings: Baltimore ahead of Chiefs after refs help KC to Week 1 win

After watching the Week 1 games for the NFL, this power ranking list will show you the top 5 teams to be keeping an eye out for this season. I can guarantee the Superbowl champions will be on this list:

1. San Francisco

No Christian McCaffrey? No problem. The 49ers proved on Monday Night Football that they are the best team in the league, making quick work of the Jets at home and dominating on both sides of the ball. Kyle Shanahan’s offense put up 32 points behind undrafted free agent rookie running back Jordan Mason (who?) and his 147 yards on the ground. Nothing looks like it can stand in the way of the Niners continuing to crush.

2. Philadelphia

What do you get when you mix Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley? The most dynamic QB/RB duo in football. Throw in AJ Brown and Devonta Smith on the outside, this offense is, simply, elite. Niners/Eagles NFC championship rematch looks likely.

CHIEFS are off to a 1-0 start thanks, in part, to the referees on their payroll. (X)

3. Baltimore

It’s obvious what you’re going to say; “But the Ravens lost to the Chiefs!” Yes, but the better team does not always win (especially when the refs hand the Chiefs the game). In spite of the 0-1 start to the Ravens’ season, reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson looks to be in prime form, linking up with new favorite target TE Isaiah Likely. Paired with Zay Flowers and a historic defense for the franchise, this team will easily be a dominant force rest of season.

4. Kansas City

In the worst officiated game of Week 1, the Chiefs won at home, barely, to the Ravens 27-20. Yes, they’re a dynasty in the making. Yes, they have Taylor Swift for as long as it takes for her to dump Travis Kelce and start writing a new album.

5. Detroit

After the Lions finished their last season with an impressive 12-5 record, ultimately tying their franchise record for wins, football fans seemed to unite behind the previously awful team. Watching them against the Rams shows little deceleration in momentum from last year. Goff, Montgomery, Bates, and Williams all showed up for the game last night, winning an overtime thriller and exemplifying how dangerous their offensive core can be.

Power Rankings lists are always the hardest to compose — taking in account for statistics and injuries, all while having to take an unbiased stance on each team’s potential is not for the weak. “It’s a solid list, however, the Lions should be higher up. While their game might not show that quite yet, their potential is unmatched,” San Clemente High School senior Gavin Unger said (definitely not a Lions fan). However, this list was a result of researching ESPN and surveying the football fans at San Clemente High School. To realize just how accurate it is, you will have to put aside your own bias, like Pierce Kerrigan, another Triton senior and football fan, “As a Ram’s fan, I can respect the list.”
