Acai bowls have become globally popular over the last decade and San Clemente has not been left out. With so many local options here in San Clemente, finding the best bowl around may be difficult. While Banzai Bowls and Acai Republic are good options, Alohana Bowls are the consensus favorite among students at SCHS.

With most of today’s unhealthy fast food and expensive organic meals, Alohana (most commonly known as “aloha”) bowls are the perfect medium of health and affordable. They offer ten different acai options ranging from the basic Swamis Bowl (Acai, Strawberries, Granola, and Bananas) or the loaded Uppers Bowl (Acai, Strawberries, Granola, Bananas, Peanut Butter, Mini Dark Chocolate chips, and Peanut butter). Sophomore Julian Duzman said, “I love the Lowers Bowl because it has fruit and peanut butter but still isn’t as heavy as the Uppers.” Another one of Alohana’s appeals is its wide range of drink selections. On top of the acai bowls mentioned above, the menu consists of 22 different coffee selections and 6 smoothie options.

The food isn’t the only reason customers flock to Alohana Bowls daily. The ambiance and great service are what make it stand out against its competition. A coastal vibe is prevalent at the Capistrano Beach and downtown San Clemente locations. This can be attributed to the music, which consists of popular reggae/surf rock bands such as Ocean Alley and Jack Johnson. Another key factor in giving both stores a modern beach shack feel is the different displays holding Sex Wax air fresheners and Pura Vida bracelets as well as the rustic wood and corroded metal accents. An employee at the Capo Beach location said, “I love working here because of the atmosphere and environment.” This makes the store a top choice for many locals throughout San Clemente looking for a quick and healthy meal.

My personal experience with the store was excellent. I waited in line for around 30 seconds before I was able to place my order. I ordered an Uppers Bowl and sat down at one of the tables inside the store for around 5 minutes before my order was ready. I asked the employee how she liked working there and left. The staff was very quick so if you’re looking for a good place to pick up food or coffee on your way to work this store would be perfect. The store also has outdoor and indoor seating, so if you would like to enjoy your bowl at the store it is a pleasant experience.

From its beachy vibe to the wide variety of food and drink options, Aloahana is one of the best, if not the best, Acai Bowl shops in San Clemente.
