The Coachella festival has been a famous music event since 1999. Coachella takes place in Indio California and occurs on two weekends in April. This year the dates are the 11th–13th and the 18th–20th. Huge crowds flood to the desert town to experience the festivities of the world famous music festival.
The main stages this year were occupied by Lady Gaga, Green day, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Charlie XCX, and Megan Thee Stallion. Many of the other performers also have notable performances. Benson Boone shared the stage with Queen’s Brian May to sing Bohemian Rhapsody which quickly went viral as Queen has not performed live since 1986. Junior Stella Nelson remarked that Boone’s performance “was [her] favorite out of all the performances that [she] saw from Coachella on social media.” Tyla was another pop star featured on the Coachella stages and she brought out Becky G to surprise her fans with a live duet of their hit song “On My Body.” Clairo used her platform for activism as she had the Vermont senator Bernie Sanders introduce her set. Sanders took the opportunity to speak on global issues like climate change, women’s rights, and the economy with the thousands of fans around the stage.
Since there are so many people that attend Coachella every year, many of the houses in the area get booked very early and there are almost never enough to house all of the guests. Many people have begun to car camp with tents and sleeping bags. The car camping spots are relatively small and measure 30′ x 10′ however they still comfortably fit one vehicle and some tents.
One of the things that Coachella might be best known for is the outfits that the attendees wear to each day of the three day festival. Many influencers have begun to be invited to these types of events through brand deals. While influencers are a new job title in the fame world, celebrities have always attended Coachella and created a stir around their outfits. This has continued to be a core part of the festival’s place in social media. Junior Megan Dougherty stated that “the Coachella outfits were the majority of the videos [she] saw regarding the festival.”
