Planned Parenthood was built upon the revolutionary idea that women need the care necessary in order to live a long and healthy life with no limits. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health care both in the United States and globally. Planned Parenthood provides birth control, cancer screening and prevention, STD testing, abortion, and more essential health care for men and women. While in partnership with over fifty other organizations, Planned Parenthood is working to break down the barriers of healthcare in the world and spread necessary information.
As the nation’s leading provider, Planned Parenthood offers many benefits and serves over 2.4 million people per year. Low-income individuals who are unable to pay for their own health care rely on Planned Parenthood.
“When my mom worked for Planned Parenthood, she would always tell me about how she wonders what people would do without it because there are so many people who are unable to afford these services,” junior Maggie Ortiz said. Planned Parenthood health centers provided over 4.4 million STD tests and treatments in the last year, including over 700,000 HIV tests. Without this organization, hundreds of thousands of people would find themselves without these essential services.
“I recently heard that Trump was planning on banning Planned Parenthood and in my opinion getting rid of it will not benefit anyone,” junior Sami Chang said. The Trump-Pence administration continues to try to block access to Planned Parenthood health care in every way possible. Some of these ways include nominating anti-Planned Parenthood judges and anti-Planned Parenthood officials and floating the idea of putting forth health care reform bills.
Overall, Planned Parenthood’s health care has helped many less fortunate families. Without Planned Parenthood offers, these families would be left helpless due to their low incomes. Even though there have been many negative speculations about Planned Parenthood, that does not hide the fact that it has undeniably assisted millions of people around the world.
Access to the information provided at centers such as Planned Parenthood is invaluable! I know many individuals who have utilized the variety of resources they provide.
