Radiohead is widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative bands of the last few decades. They have been credited with pushing the boundaries of rock music and incorporating elements of electronic, experimental, and alternative music into their sound.

Their 1997 album “OK Computer” is considered a groundbreaking and seminal work in the genre of alternative rock, which helped to popularize a more experimental and electronic-influenced sound. The band’s use of complex and unconventional song structures, along with their incorporation of electronic music elements such as programming and samples, has also been influential to many bands and musicians.

“Radiohead is definitely one of my favorite bands. I grew up listening to them- mainly because of my dad.” Says SCHS junior Stella Thomas.

Radiohead’s music has been praised for its creativity, originality, and emotional depth, and the band has been cited as an inspiration by many other artists across genres. They have been influential not only on rock music, but many other genres as well. In addition to their music, Radiohead is also known for their political activism and use of technology to connect with fans and release their music. They have been early adopters of digital distribution, and have used the internet to release music and connect with fans in new ways.

Their last tour was the “A Moon Shaped Pool” which took place from 2016 to 2018. It helped support the band’s ninth studio album “A Moon Shaped Pool” which was released on May 8, 2016, following the start of the tour in just that same month. It was the band’s first tour in four years. Divided into two legs, the first one was in Europe and the second one was in North America, South America and Oceania. The tour ended in November 2018 with their final show in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The tour received positive reviews from critics and fans, who praised the band’s performances and the set list, which included songs from the new album as well as a selection of older material. Since then, the band has been on hiatus… up until just recently. Radiohead drummer, Phil Selway, announces the possibility of an appearance from them in 2023.

“We’re going to get together at the start of [2023], and I’m sure we’re going to start looking at other ideas for what comes next. Hail to the Thief — it’s a long time since that record, isn’t it?”

“Hail to the Thief” is the sixth studio album released on June 9, 2003. The album was recorded in the band’s studio and produced by Nigel Godrich, who has worked with the band on all their studio albums since “OK Computer” (1997). The album features a more political and socially conscious theme than previous albums, as a response to the political climate at the time, specifically the controversial 2000 U.S. presidential election.  “Hail to the Thief” was a commercial success for the band, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number three on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The album was certified Gold in the UK, Canada, and the United States, and it was nominated for the 2004 Mercury Prize. It is considered by many fans as one of the band’s best work and it is often included in “best albums” lists.

The aftermath of Radiohead’s most recent projects have provided nothing but major success. Because of this, their ‘disappearance’ has left melomaniacs eager for more. So, is it really true? Will Radiohead reunite? Or is it just an effortless idea?

“As far as I know, we’re still a band! If anybody knows any different, I’d be very interested” -Phil Selway
