What do you think of when you hear “amusement park food”; slimy corndogs, sticky cotton candy, or possibly even greasy deep-fried Oreos? Disneyland has avoided this stereotype by elevating itself above the competition. Junior Taylor Juncaj says “Disneyland has such a broad range of unique options, it really sets it apart compared to other parks like Knotts.” Recently I embarked on a trip to Disneyland’s California Adventure, being a food fanatic myself I studied up on the options to try and find the very best of the impending possibilities that awaited inside those blue sparkly gates. Here’s a list and honest rating of the foods that I ate that day.

Savory Bacon Mac & Cheese Cone: Rating- 3/10

I had high hopes for this dish and had previously raved about it because of past experiences, but this time changed my opinion on

this savory cone. Either I had been wrong all along or there has been a change in the recipe. The bread itself was dry and undercooked so I could only bear one bite. The mac & cheese was considerably tasty and I thought I could get by with just munching on these cheesy noodles, but there was yet another obstacle I had to face, the bacon pieces piercing through the cheesy goodness taste in my mouth. The bacon tasted closer to the fake “bacon bits” than any sort of actual pork belly. I am never getting this again after this nauseating experience. Junior Kendall Hood talks about how she was scarred by a similar experience “The breading around the Mac & Cheese ruined the chance of a good dish.”

Char Siu BBQ Pork Bao with pickled red onion and jalapeño- 6/10

PORK BAO BUNS: A celebratory Lunar New Year dish. Jenna Forss

I recovered from my previous mac & cheese mishap with this Lunar New Year dish. The bao bun was soft and pillowy, a perfect parcel to deliver the sweetly seasoned pork to your mouth. The pickled onions, jalapeño, and cilantro delivered just the right amount of bite into the saccharine meat. A couple of bites without these toppings though left you with the thought of catching a sugar high.

Proton Punch from Avengers Pym Test Kitchen- 9.5/10

The presentation of this drink packs a heroic punch! I may be biased because I am lemonade’s #1 fan but when you squeeze in the grenadine pipette and mix it in with the berry puree that lies at the bottom you are met with a sensation of summery flavors that could quench any thirst. Not to mention the cherry-bursting boba that pops in your mouth adds an exciting new texture to this mocktail.

Not so Little Chicken Sandwich – 7/10

This creative spoof on the powers in the Ant-Man/Marvel cinematic universe is a perfect lunch for any hungry

park walker. The chicken and tater tots were both extremely crispy. The tater tots were the most seasoned that I have ever tasted. In my opinion, the chicken itself did not have enough of the teriyaki and red chili sauces but when they were a main component in the bite it made an astronomical difference to the chicken. The coleslaw was the perfect balance to the richness of the rest of the dish.

Churro- 2/10

Despite all the rave around this Disneyland classic, ours was cold and kicked all my expectations to the curb.

Pickle- 6/10

This odd snack was delicious, crunchy, and salty. Sadly I could only get through a few bites though before I had to throw it away. It was too much pickle for one person. I do estimate that it would be a slightly more appetizing snack on a hot summer day, though!

QuesaBirria Tacos – 9/10

The crunchy shells, the savory meat, the melted cheese, the tart lime, the crisp radishes, and of course the SAUCE! Everything comes together into one perfect bite. This is a must-have at California Adventure.

Incredibles Jack Jack Cookie – 9.5/10

JACK JACK COOKIE: A delicious dessert that can be found next to the new Incredicoaster. Jenna Forss

This decadent delight possessed a dense, moist center while the outside remained just the right amount of crunchy. It tasted like a sugar cookie/butter cake with the added bonus of chocolate chips. The perfect dessert for a nippy night.
