Allcove, a youth-driven mental health initiative built by young people for young people, continues to expand its impact across California. Designed to create safe, welcoming spaces where youth can access mental health resources, Allcove has recently opened a new center in San Juan Capistrano, bringing critical services closer to Orange County teens and young adults.

Allcove is modeled after Australia’s successful Headspace program, a globally recognized initiative that provides accessible, integrated mental health care for youth. The concept was first introduced in the United States through Stanford University’s Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbe

ing in partnership with Santa Clara County. Together, they created a model that supports individuals from age 15 to 25 by offering services that address mental health, physical health, education, employment, and peer support, all under one roof!

What truly sets Allcove apart is its commitment to youth leadership. Each Allcove Wellness & Prevention Center is guided by a Youth Advisory Group (YAG), a team of high school and college students who help design programming, outreach strategies, and center initiatives. By allowing youth voices to shape services, Allcove ensures its resources remain relevant and accessible to the communities it serves.

“Allcove sounds like a space where young people feel heard, supported, and empowered to prioritize their well-being,” said Mia Kocher, a SCHS Senior. Allcove is much different from traditional services because youth are directly involved in shaping the programs and environment.

The recent opening of the San Juan Capistrano location marks a significant step in expanding youth mental health accessibility in South Orange County. The center offers a comfortable, stigma-free environment where young people can connect with peers, access counseling, and participate in wellness activities.

It is evident that access to youth-focused mental health support is essential for building stronger, healthier communities. When informed of Allcove’s mission, SCHS Senior Avalon Davis acknowledged that “when young people are involved in leading these spaces, the impact becomes even greater.”

Allcove is now accepting applications for its 2026–2027 Youth Advisory Group. Students interested in leadership, mental health advocacy, and community engagement are encouraged to apply. Joining YAG allows youth to directly influence programs, collaborate with peers, and help shape the future of youth wellness in their community.
