Every year, Hollywood celebrates the film industry through the Academy Awards with prestigious awards and the famous red carpet. On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the 98th annual Academy Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars, will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and is expected to bring exciting performances and glamorous fashion to those watching and attending.

Millions of viewers from all over the world will tune in to watch the excitement unfold. This upcoming Oscars include categories like best picture, best actor, lead actor, supporting actress, and a new category, best casting. Sinners, a supernatural horror film by Ryan Coogler, starring Michael B. Jordan and Miles Caton, has taken over nominations across the board with 16 in total.

Sophomore student and frequent movie watcher, Olive Brink shared her opinion on which film she thought is most deserving of the best sound award. She explained how F1: The Movie “had the best wooshing sounds that really showed how fast the cars were going.” Brink also mentioned how she “could feel [her] chair vibrate from the noise” when she watched the movie in theaters.

We can expect live musical performances from the nominees of Best Original Song. HUNTR/X is set to perform their hit song “Golden” featured in the animated film, KPop Demon Hunters. This song is especially significant as it was the first K-pop song to win a Grammy award and managed to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq will perform their song “I Lied to You” which was played in Sinners. They will perform along with an ensemble including Buddy Guy, Shaboozy, and Bobby Rush. Other performances may also occur, but “Golden” and “I Lied to You” are the only ones confirmed.

Moreover, before the ceremony begins, the red carpet outside of the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles will become a place where celebrities can show off their custom looks designed by some of the largest names in fashion. Sophomore student Abby Emory mentioned how she enjoys “watching the red carpet before the show to see all of the fancy outfits.” Some walking the carpets spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to make themselves stand out from the crowd. Last year, Ariana Grande debuted her iconic “Bubble” look, a pink Schiaparelli gown adorned with 190,000 crystals paired with crystal jewelry estimated to cost over $5 million in total. “The jewels that they wear look so expensive and unique,” added Emory. Stars don’t take the Oscars lightly when it comes to fashion. They will spend every penny to stand out and Ariana is no exception.

As the ceremony approaches, anticipation grows for what the night will bring. With the awards themselves, unforgettable performances, and the high-fashion, the night celebrates all forms of entertainment from the film industry. Available to watch on ABC and Hulu, the Academy Awards intend to bring the same excitement and glam it had in years past.
