One of the most popular foods to eat amongst high school students, as polled by the Triton Times, is sushi. Therefore, in an effort to feature the hottest in-town sushi houses, I’ve researched the top three for teenage sushi lovers: Miyako, 9 Style Sushi, and Taka-O.

Located in the Los Mares Plaza (aka the “Kirkorian Plaza”) in San Clemente, Miyako is reasonably price and is a hot spot for sushi lovers all-around Orange County. Known for their wide variety of sushi, Miyako also features a ton of other delicious Japanese options like BBQ beef ribs and shrimp & vegetable tempura. The hot choice of customers is the cut- roll sushi with many options such as the California roll, crunchy roll, rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll, all of these are favorites of sushi customers. In addition, Miyako offers teriyaki bowls with many different meat options at a reasonable price, starting at only $4.95. These include the chicken bowl, beef bowl, and vegetable bowl, all for under $6.

“I like the California rolls at Miyako because they don’t taste very fishy,” senior Sarah Marotta said. “But they’re good for when my family and I want to eat sushi.”

9 Style Sushi is located at 102 Avenida Victoria Street, San Clemente. Another popular sushi restaurant, 9 Style includes a wide variety of hand-cut sushi rolls, 19 to be exact, and also has other options including sashimi and regular sushi. The hot pick of sushi rolls for costumers is the California roll, which is also popular at other sushi restaurants around town. This roll includes cucumber, crab meat, and avocado, all wrapped in seaweed and then coated with rice.168s

“I like California rolls because they’re dank,” said sophomore Maisie Freeny. Another popular roll at 9 Style is the Koba Koba Roll – Ahi tuna, tempura shrimp, and their secret sauce.

Located at 425 N El Camino Real, in San Clemente, Taka-O is a popular choice for sushi lovers that want to eat in a more high-end atmosphere. There is a plethora of sushi options at Taka-O along with food plates like the chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, and shrimp teriyaki. The top pick for hand-cut sushi rolls is the rainbow roll. This roll is a California roll with Ahi tuna, red snapper, and salmon.
