Soccer fans all over the world have no doubt been keeping up with the World Cup. News about the soccer teams has been trending all over social media. But along with the World Cup came another unexpected Tiktok trend: the Brazilian dance. When you think of professional soccer players, the mind immediately goes to big names such as Neymar Jr. His name is also associated with the country he plays for, which is Brazil. For the past few weeks, the spotlight has been on Neymar and Brazil, causing the country to be trending on TikTok.

It started off with various Neymar Jr. edits. “I just opened TikTok one day and my entire ‘for you page’ was just full of videos of Neymar,” senior Lukas Unseld said. Then, it progressed to Brazilian songs trending on the app, such as “Parando No Bailão” which people have deemed to be “Neymar’s song” since

There are so many edits of him with this song in the background. After that, an account called “@gsapollosalles” began posting various videos of Brazilian “dance battles”. In these videos, there are always two girls surrounded by a group of people showing off their variations of their dances to “Tubarão Te Amo” . These videos caught people’s attention, and now there are millions of videos under the audio of people trying to learn this infamous Brazilian dance. Many of these videos are captioned “I’m learning the Brazilian dance just in case I travel to Brazil and someone challenges me to a dance battle,” clearly making jokes about the other account.

“I will admit, I did spend quite some time trying to learn the dance myself,” said senior Emma Fann, “It’s just so fun to do.” Emma Fann’s bravery in admitting this has inspired me to admit that I too spent copious amounts of time trying to perfect the dance. Unfortunately I have not been successful in doing so. This year’s World Cup has not only brought entertainment for soccer fans, but it has also unified people across the world through song and dance.
