The Grammys are one of the years’ most anticipated awards shows. On February 5, 2023, the 65th annual Grammys took place at the Crypto.com Arena in LA, hosted by Trevor Noah. This year, like many others, brought on many conversations and controversies over who won, who lost, and everything in between.

The awards show was opened by none other than Bad Bunny with a jaw-dropping performance and was quickly followed by performances from Brandi Carlile, Harry Styles, Steve Lacy, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and more. However, one of the most iconic performances of the entire night was definitely the celebration of 50 years of hip hop which included artists such as LL Cool J, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Nelly, Swizz Beatz, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. The hip-hop performance alone captivated the entire audience and will make the 65th Grammy Awards go down in history as one of the most iconic nights in Hollywood.

Speaking of Grammy history, this year, Beyonce broke the record for the most Grammys ever won, bringing her total to 32 after winning four Grammys Sunday night for: “Best Dance/Electronic Album” for “Renaissance,” “Best R&B Song” for “Cuff It,” “Best Dance-Electronic Music Recording” for “Break My Soul,” and “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for “Plastic off the Sofa.”

Additional notable winners include Lizzo for “Record of the Year,” Harry Styles for “Album of the Year,” Bonnie Raitt for “Song of the Year,” Adele for “Best Solo Performance, and Kendrick Lamar for “Best Rap Album.”

In fact, many people have spoken out about Harry Styles winning “Album of the Year” and not all reactions have been positive.

Senior at SCHS Benji Prather argued, “I think Kendrick Lamar should have won “Album of the Year” instead of Harry Styles. The stories he tells in his music are much more captivating than Harry’s songs and he had already won.”

However, Harry’s loyal fans are louder than the haters, including freshman at SCHS, Ava Echternach who said, “I think “Harry’s House” is a really great album and definitely deserved to win. This is also a great boost of confidence for him [Harry] who is still early on in his career.”

Viewers of the awards show were sure to smile at least once or twice despite the controversy over wins and losses thanks to Trevor Noah’s corny jokes, and the banter and performance of Hollywood’s biggest stars!
