On December 1st, the Triton Boys Soccer team had their first official preseason match against Los Alamitos at Thalassa Stadium. The boys started the season strong with a 5-0 win, showing that this team isn’t one to be messed with. Last season, the boys soccer won the league and are looking to defend their title this season.
The boys soccer program is notorious for being a successful sports program at SCHS, producing collegiate athletes every year. This year the team’s goal is not only to win the league, but as senior Luke Karidis put it, “To win CIF and State.” Karidis highlighted the goals of this team, but also how they are playing in the moment. It’s a big accomplishment to go 5-o in a game, and he said that “The boys were firing:” hungry to win the match and continue through the rest of the season with that same drive. This is an ambitious team with a lot of drive to achieve what senior Talon Sarasua called the “Triple Crown,” ultimately “bringing glory to Thalassa.”

During their game against Los Alamitos, senior Chris Benitas scored two goals, junior Cisco Garcia scored two goals, and junior Koa Trager scored one goal. As shown by their 5-0 sweep, Karidis described the game as a “very dominant performance overall.” Everyone on the team was contributing to the Tritons’ success and not only did the varsity team come out with the dub but all three levels: frosh/soph, junior varsity, and varsity came out with a program sweep.
This is just the start for boys soccer as they enter the rest of pre-season with a focused and aggressive mindset. They have matches lined up against Orange Lutheran and Del Norte that will help them prepare for the rest of their league season as they continue to defend their league title in the very competitive South Coast League. This league consists of Mission Viejo, Aliso Nigel, San Juan Hills, and El Toro. It will be exciting to see what this team accomplishes this season and we look forward to following along.
