In recent weeks, NeeDohs have completely taken over everyone’s lives. These fidget toys offer a unique variety of endless relaxation and fun. NeeDohs can be yours for the low price of $4.49. At SCHS students have been found bringing them to school. Whether it’s to help them fidget during a hard class, or offer them a fun toy to share with their friends at break, NeeDohs are taking over. Sophomore Mahault Du Halgouet expressed that, “NeeDohs are such an innovative and accessible way to relieve stress or just have fun.” These toys are so simple yet so effective; they are practical and that’s why so many people love them.
Many believe TikTok is the reason NeeDohs have become so popular–being one of the many fidget toys to arise in popularity, especially amongst the teens. People are sharing their growing collections, posting reviews, making edits of them, and cutting the insides to make slime. NeeDohs are filled with a non-toxic glue called PVA glue (polyvinyl alcohol) and corn syrup to create their extremely soft texture.
However, it is not just NeeDohs expanding their popularity. Society seems to be re-entering the fidget toy era as a whole. Specifically, there has been an increase in squishes, slime, and Five Below’s mystery dumpling blind boxes. The soup dumplings come in many different colors, but everyone is hunting over the glitter or gold dumplings. This has led to the dumplings being out of stock at nearly every Five Below location. Senior Kai Wells described her Five Below experience when she went to hopefully buy a dumpling mystery box as, “super sad when [she] did not find the dumplings at Five Below, but honestly was not surprised because they become such a popular TikTok trend and with so many people seeing them.” Additionally, she explained how she “enjoys watching all the unboxing videos of them, and thinks that has contributed to the overall viral of the trend.” These dumplings are so popular that the “rare” ones are going for over $750 on eBay.
TikTok is definitely the most vital component to the increased popularity of fidget toys and is yet another compelling example of how influential social media truly is.
