Yesterday, Apple released a plethora of new devices, most interestingly, a new MacBook. However, this MacBook, called “Neo,” is the first budget-friendly option that Apple has ever offered. Like the iPhone Pocket in November, this seems to be a part of a new campaign for Apple that is moving away from the luxury appeal and towards a more Gen-Z marketing approach.

As someone who has only purchased pre-owned MacBooks, the price of their new product is very appealing. The Neo, which starts at $599, seems like the perfect bang-for-your-buck laptop at the moment. It comes in four different colors, is powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, and has a battery life of 16 hours. Of course, it comes with a 13-inch liquid glass display and a 1080p FaceTime camera as well. For students, this is an affordable option that checks all of the boxes and is the perfect portable size for school and travel.
Apple is known for their bougie appeal and expensive price tags. But the Neo appears to be targeted towards a younger audience with its cheap price and relatable feel. Usually, the videos on the Apple official TikTok account are simply reposted advertisements with comments and engagement disabled. However, a week ago, TikToks were posted to promote the release of the MacBook Neo, which featured unserious, comical videos with comments enabled.
It seems Apple has taken an interest in Gen-Z, and the response has been quite positive so far. All over TikTok, people have been comparing the Citrus colored Neo fits to the frutiger aero aesthetic–a nostalgic, 2000s-centered, user-interface based, design style. Michael Marnella, a sophomore at SCHS, stated, “I cannot lie, I have been a pretty heavy android user, but the price tag and the Citrus color way have really caught my eye.” However, Citrus is not the only color that people are raving about. Blush, a pink color option, has attracted sophomore Andrea Trejo. Trejo exclaimed “You do not understand. The Blush colored one is absolutely perfect and I just need it right now.”
With the launch of the MacBook Neo, Apple’s new marketing mission towards minimalism and Gen-Z has been well perceived by the public. It seems they have really hit it out of the park with their color choices as well. Apple users, online and at school, are excited about the brand-new Neo and Apple’s refreshing Gen-Z focus.
