Yoga in the park at the Dana Point Harbor.

Currently, about 20.4 million Americans are practicing yoga, and as it becomes increasingly popular that number is only growing. iHeartYoga is a studio based in the Dana Point Harbor, and with a wonderful staff of teachers and a beautiful location, this studio attracts both the avid yogi who has been practicing yoga for years and the beginner who is stepping on their mat for the first time.

Along with their studio classes, iHeartYoga also offers a donation based class on the grass at Lantern Bay Park, which directly overlooks the Doheny State Park Beach and the eye can stretch all the way down to Cotton’s Point at the end of San Clemente. Starting at 10 a.m. every morning, this hour long class is the perfect start to your morning  and lets both your mind and body feel all the benefits of yoga.

San Clemente High School senior Hadley Thorsell says, “Anytime I go to yoga on a Saturday morning it’s always the best decision because I leave feeling energized and happy.”

The dedicated teachers are what make the class what it is. Each of their personalities and ways of teaching yoga are uniquely different, which makes every trip to the park different in the best possible way. One of the teachers even brings a harmonium, an instrument used for sound healing in yoga, and will treat the group to a few moments of musical meditation at the start of the class.

A great start to your morning as the sun comes up.

This class is wonderful for all ages, skill levels, and is even pet friendly. Taking a class in the park could mean that the person on the mat next to you is a 10 year old girl whose’ mom made her come with her, a 55 year old man who has been practicing yoga for over 15 years, or they could be a dog simply chilling in the grass while their owner is holding an arm balance. No matter who or what you are, this class is the perfect opportunity to get into the fresh air and also get a pretty solid workout in, too.

“I love seeing all of the dogs laying the grass next to their owners,” says SCHS senior Alexi Dragotto. “Always so happy just to be there, it’s adorable.”
