Senior Audrey Della Vedova is over 6 feet tall, but that is far from the only quality that makes her stand out. As a committed volleyball player, a great friend, and a devoted scholar, Della Vedova has made an impact on campus, despite not being here freshman and sophomore year. As a transfer student who came to SCHS as a junior, Della Vedova had a unique experience. She arrived when school was all online or hybrid (half online and half in-person) because of COVID-19. Though she chose the in-person option, the school experience she had was far from the usual. Luckily, she made the best of her situation, and is even grateful for the unique experience.

“Going in person last year was actually nice because I was able to adjust to a new school without being overwhelmed,” Della Vedova reminisced. “This year, I am really taking in everything SCHS has to offer because I missed out on it my first 2 years.”

Sports games and meeting new people are some of Della Vedova’s favorite things about SCHS. She loves talking to new people everyday at school and sports games because each person has a unique perspective that she can learn from. Each person comes from a separate group of friends with different interests and talents. This aspect is what “makes each day something new for [her],” Audrey reflected. “I love how everyone at our school is able to be united and mesh together as one.”

Bump, set, spike. Della Vedova is a volleyball rock star who committed to playing the sport at Boston College (BC) in November of last year. As soon as she talked to her future coaches there, she knew that it was where she belonged. BC offered a perfect mix of great academics and a competitive D1 volleyball league, the ACC. She has an affinity for math, problem solving, and communication with others, and she has expressed great interest in pursuing finance at Boston College. She loves San Clemente, but she wants to “try something new” for college. Della Vedova loves cold weather but admits that she might take a new perspective of it next year during the cold Boston winter.

“I’m so proud of Audrey for committing to play at Boston College, she definitely deserves it,” senior Ryan Coughlin said. “She’s one of the hardest working players I’ve ever met and always a great person to compete with on the court.”

Her senior volleyball season was her fondest memory at SCHS because her team was very close. Everyday was fun when they were together. She made special bonds that will undoubtedly lead to lasting friendships.

“Audrey is very hard working, and she deserves her opportunities so much and more,” senior Reese Torticill said. “Audrey always wants the best for everyone and will always have your back no matter what. She’s amazing and I can’t wait to see her playing at Boston College to continue her amazing academic and athletic skills.”

Outside of volleyball, Della Vedova enjoys hot yoga, Peloton, lifting, and exploring fashion. She also loves traveling and spending time with her family. Next year, she will miss cheering on her younger brothers, Brock (sophomore) and Drew (sixth-grader), in their sports.

Her life does not stop there. Della Vedova participates in volunteer work with the National Honors Society and Serra’s Pantry in her spare time. In college, she hopes to join similar programs and new ones like Best Buddies.

“Looking back on my high school experience and where I want to go from here, I plan on continuing to enjoy my classes and what being a senior has to offer,” Della Vedova explained. “Everyday is an opportunity for me to soak in all of the awesome aspects of our school and city and prepare for my future in Boston.”
